In a Hydrolysed Protein diet the protein is broken down into its component parts which are smaller and less likely to trigger an allergic reaction. These are fully balanced diets but can be more expensive due to the cost of production.
Some examples of these diets are:
Royal Canin Hypoallergenic HP
Purina HA
Hill’s Z/D
A Novel Protein diet contains protein sources which your pet may not have come into contact and therefore should not have developed an allergy to. These diets often have protein sources such as salmon or duck.
Royal Canin Hypoallergenic
Hill’s D/D
The only way to truly diagnose a food allergy is through an Elimination Diet Trial
